Dear Ukrainian Friends,
Dear President /International Secretary
The National Science Section of NSZZ ‘Solidarność’ condemns the violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine as a result of aggression by Russia. What Russia does in Ukraine today is a challenge put to the democratic world, a violation of the Charter of the United Nations, and a threat to peace in Europe. Justification of aggression of Russian troops in Ukraine by the need to protect security of Ukrainian citizens of Russian nationality, is a pretext, similar to the one used to justify the Soviet invasion of Poland on 17 September 1939. By its aggression against Ukraine, Russia violated international treaties, including the agreement between Russia and Ukraine, and the Budapest International Memorandum of 1994, in which Russia, the USA and the United Kingdom jointly committed themselves to respect the sovereignty and borders of Ukraine and to refrain from the use of force against the territorial integrity and political independence of the country.
We express our support for Ukrainian teachers and researchers and for the entire Ukrainian people, who have the right to a democratic, sovereign and independent state, and the right to decide on their future without outside intervention.
We hope that the international community will demonstrate enough determination to force the aggressor to leave the territory of Ukraine.
